Glossary Anatomy / Term
A small structure contained within a cell that performs one or more specific functions. Organelles can directly influence the cell that they are in, but they can also indirectly influence the entire body. Organelles in the human body include, but are by no means limited to the following list: centriole, centrosome, cilia, smooth endoplasmic reticulum, rough endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, lysosome, microtubule, microvilli, mitochondria, peroxisome, ribosome, vesicle. Other organisms have exotic and very specialized organelles not found in the human body.
