Glossary Chess / Term
A tactic where an enemy piece is attacked and forced to move, exposing another enemy piece behind it to capture.
Sometimes called an "x-ray" attack, a sort of inside-out pin. A move that attacks a piece of value, but there is a piece behind it of equal or lesser value that will be captured anyway if the attacked piece moves.
An attack on a valuable piece, compelling it to move to avoid capture and thus expose a less valuable piece which can then be taken. See also X-ray.
