Polycarp

(69-155 A.D.) Thought to have been appointed Bishop of Smyrna by Peter. He wrote the "Epistle of St. Polycarp", or "Epistle to the Philippians", and was known to be in contact with Ignatius, and other noted early Christians. Is thought to have rejected the teachings of Marcion, but stated that, "For every one who does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is antichrist; and whosoever does not confess the testimony of the cross, is a devil, and whosoever perverteth the oracles of the Lord (to serve) his own lusts, and saith there is neither resurrection nor judgment, this man is a first-born of Satan".
