Glossary Karate / Term
(Strike) Palm heel strike.
[Striking Technique] The palm-heel strike can be performed upward or from the side and uses the heel of the palm as the striking surface. It is used to attack the face, chin, ribs, and solar plexus, and also to block. To perform the upward palm-heel strike, thrust the striking hand upward and outward from the abdomen, keeping the elbow close to the body. At impact, the heel of the palm points directly upward. For the sideward palm-heel strike, the striking hand thrusts from the side of the body outward. The thumb is upward when the palm heel strikes its target and the wrist is bent sharply.
