Glossary Liquid chromatography / Term
A small glass bead coated with a thin layer of stationary phase. The thin layer can be an adsorbent, a resin, or a phase chemically bonded onto the adsorbent. These were the first packings to be used in HPLC. They were larger (20-40 µm) than the microparticulate packings of today, but were easy to pack into columns and gave adequate efficiency. Also referred to as controlled surface porosity supports and pellicular packings.
