Balanced

Balanced wiring in electronics refers to wiring with two conductors in addition to a wire shield. Unbalanced wires use the shield as one conductor with only one additional conductor inside the cable. By enclosing two wires within the cable with a separate shield, the cable is more resistant to external “noise” and interference, which may harm the signal quality. All electrical systems require two wires, one leaving and one coming, in order to create a complete circuit. Balanced cables are less likely to be affected by other components and elements in an audio/video system. fully balanced system must have balanced wiring along with balanced components. Such fully balanced components typically use XLR connectors, which have three prongs – one for positive signal flow, one for negative signal flow, and one for the ground. Generally, balanced connections are used primarily in professional audio and are fairly rare in consumer audio, and when balanced components are found they are typically expensive, high-end models.
