Glossary Multimedia / Term
Common type of loudspeaker using traditional speaker drivers consisting of diaphragms, voice coils, stationary magnets, suspensions, spiders, and baskets in which a signal applied to the voice coil moves it and the attached speaker diaphragm in relation to the stationary magnet and basket. Dynamic speakers are common in all areas of sound reproduction and almost exclusively dominate the area of low frequency sound reproduction. Another variety of speaker found much less often than the dynamic speaker is the electrostatic speaker, which moves a large, thin electrically charged film placed inside an electric field to generate sound. Dynamic speakers excel at reproducing loud music or sound passages and feature a wide dynamic range.
