Floorstanding Speaker

A specific type of speaker enclosure that stands directly on the floor without needing to sit on something in order to raise its speaker drivers to an acceptable height in line with the listener. Most floorstanding speakers are at least 30 inches tall. Compared to bookshelf speakers, which are purposely small and intended to sit on stands or shelves of some sort, floorstanding speakers are meant to stand by themselves. hink of a 7-foot tall basketball player and five-foot tall child. The taller basketball player would be floorstanding, he doesn’t need additional height to come close to the basket. The shorter child, however, would need to stand on a two-foot ladder to reach the same height and be closer to the hoop. The child is like a bookshelf speaker, which must sit on something to reach the appropriate height, while the basketball player stands directly on the floor like a floorstanding speaker. loorstanding speakers tend to have better bass response than their smaller bookshelf counterparts due to their larger enclosures. These enclosures are able to hold additional low frequency drivers in order to reach lower into the frequency spectrum. They can also be “tuned” to enhance the output of their low frequency drivers in order to achieve the greatest impact and low frequency playback capabilities (enclosures affect the quality of sound produced by a speaker; generally larger enclosures are able to put out more bass information giving floorstanding speakers an advantage in the area of bass reproduction compared to smaller bookshelf speakers).
