High-Pass Crossover

Type of crossover that attenuates or cuts off low frequency signals and sends on only the high frequency signals falling above the crossover point (crossover frequency). A high-pass crossover is used to take away bass information from an audio signal being passed on to a speaker or amplifier. Such a crossover can be used to take the low bass out of a signal so that a bookshelf speaker or other speaker not adept at reproducing low frequencies will not be faced with attempting to reproduce the bass. Combined with a low-pass crossover (which sends on only bass information), high-pass crossover can take the bass signals away from the primary speakers and shunt them to subwoofers instead.
