Element used in some speaker designs to increase efficiency by placing the driver at the end of a megaphone-like piece if metal, plastic, wood or other material that expands outward from the driver similar to an ice cream cone expanding outward from its point (apex). The horn design is used commonly in professional audio systems to provide the maximum level of volume with a given input of power. o visualize horn technology, think of how you cup your hands to your mouth when you shout. We do this routinely at football games, basketball games and other sporting events in order to amplify our voice. Our hands act like a horn for a speaker driver with our mouth as the driver itself. s sound waves travel out from the driver they are expanded by the horn and directed in a narrow plane resulting in more sound reaching a given listener. A speaker driver used in conjunction with a horn can create high sound pressure levels with less input than a comparable speaker without the horn.
