Glossary Multimedia / Term
Method of interaction between the stylus and cartridge of a phonograph that creates electrical signals by attaching a coil of wire to the stylus that in turn moves up and down in relation to a magnet in the cartridge. As the coil moves in and out of the magnetic field created by the stationary magnet, it generates a small electric signal. The signal can then be sent to other audio components, amplified and used to drive a speaker. he stylus moves up and down as it reads the grooves in a record album. It transmits the wave signal recorded in the grooves up to the cartridge where it moves through the magnetic field following the signal in the grooves.
