Glossary Multimedia / Term
Number of elements used to make up or represent a signal or image with higher numbers resulting in more lifelike and accurate representations. Resolution is used in terms of digital audio and video to refer to the number of bits of information that are used to recreate a signal. It is also used more frequently to describe the number of pixels or individual picture elements that make up an image on a video display. Higher resolution formats create an image that appears more like the real thing. Higher resolution provides higher quality and is generally preferable, all things being equal, to lower resolution.
