Glossary Multimedia / Term
Ability of a CD player, phonograph, DVD player or other device that reads data in a continuous track around a disc to follow that information track and take information from it. Tracking problems occur when a player is not able to follow the data path around a disc. Most tracking problems are the result of scratches or dirt on the recorded disc. racking also refers to the position of a video head over a magnetic videotape allowing a VCR to properly read information from a videotape. Most electronic components now perform tracking adjustments by themselves when needed (such as auto-tracking circuitry on a VCR).
