Remote control that can send commands to and control features of multiple components. A universal remote may be able to control a CD player, DVD player, television, and preamplifier for instance. However, most universal remotes are not able to perform every function of the dedicated remote for a given component. For example, a universal remote probably cannot replicate the function of a super speed rewind button on a VCR or subtitles on a DVD player. ome universal remotes, known as learning remote controls, can “talk” to other dedicated remote controls and learn their functions. These learning remotes can thus perform all functions of a dedicated remote control. Additionally, some learning remotes feature macros which can learn and then string together multiple functions into one command allowing a single punch of a macro key to turn on a television, start the VCR, and adjust the volume (or any other combination of actions). any receivers and pre-amplifiers come with universal remotes as do many televisions and VCRs. However, the more powerful learning remote controls, especially those with macros and other advanced functions, are often purchased separately and act as an individual component in your system.
