Glossary Robotics / Term
The part of a manipulator robot that positions the end-effector and sensors to do their pre-programmed business. Robot arms come in all shapes and sizes.
Many (but not all) resemble human arms, and have shoulders, elbows, wrists, even fingers. These are commonly referred to as “jointed-arm” robots.
An interconnected set of links and powered joints comprising a robot manipulator that supports and/or moves a wrist and hand or end-effector through space. The arm itself does not include the end-effector.
See Manipulator, End-effector and Wrist.
