An instrument for measuring wind speed. Ultrasonic, laser, hot wire and cup varieties are available: cup anemometers (consisting of a number of cups attached to an axle) are almost invariably used throughout the wind industry. Good quality anemometers are vital for accurate wind resource assessment.
