Glossary Wind Energy / Term
A virtual force experienced by a body relative to a rotating body as it moves outward from the centre of rotation. For example, the Coriolis force causes air flowing southwards in the northern hemisphere to veer westwards relative to the rotating globe below; hence it has a huge influence on the behaviour of the atmosphere. It is a consequence of the principle of conservation of angular momentum (but should be distinguished from gyroscopic effects).
