Glossary Wind Energy / Term
As wind passes through the rotor disc, it is slowed as energy is extracted from it, and vorticity is introduced into the air by the blades. This stream of slowed air can extend up to 10 rotor diameters behind the WT and is known as the wake. WTs placed in the wake of others will experience lower wind speeds and increased turbulence, reducing power output and increasing wear and tear.
