Used to connect multiple speaker binding posts on speakers capable of bi- or tri-amping. Speakers capable of this feature separate binding posts for the upper and lower frequency ranges so those drivers may be driven by independent amplifiers resulting in arguably superior sound quality by cutting out all or portions of the passive crossover. These connections can also be used for bi-wiring in which multiple wires are run to the speaker and amplifier (but only one amplifier channel is used for the entire speaker) effectively creating a heavier gauge wire and again producing superior sound quality. However, when a person does not want to bi-amp or bi-wire the speakers, the binding posts must be connected. The jumper is a simple metal piece that connects the two binding terminals so that whatever power is applied to one terminal is applied to both.
